Visit to Kanoria center for arts, University area , Ahemdabad

Archana Rao , my sister ; Ahana Rao my niece , my daughter disha and my wife Sonali, visited the Kanoria center for arts on February 19,2011. we were fortunate to meet Suvarna Kamakshi an artist was presenting her work at the Huthesing visual art center. Train your Assistant or else Cross Infection Control Fails

Professor Durgesh Bailoor and Dr Ashish Sankhla MBA (Hospital adminstrator) organized a training session in the Karnavati School of Dentistry on Seriousness of Cross Infection control.

The Target audience was NON- teaching and Auxiliary Staff who assist the doctors and help them to maintain hygiene and cross infection control in the clinics. Posters , handouts made in Gujarati language and demonstrations of proper instrument handling , hand washing , autoclaving and use of sterilizing indicators were some of the components of training.

Recent spate of Congo fever deaths amongst health care personnel in Gujarat , specially Sanand district was highlighted.

Dr Hiren and Dr Bhumi both Post graduate students in Oral Medicine and Radiology department were on the forefront to give the total education in Gujarati language so that the comprehension amongst auxiliaries was total.

It was also a training session for Post graduates who have to involve in different aspects of clinical training of auxiliaries in local language.

The post graduate students are encouraged to use blue smocks together with head gear and gloves routinely . This will sensitize them on seriousness to protect from TB, HIV, Congo Fever and Swine Flu to name the least.

I urge all the hospital departments please train your auxiliaries well and also be very afraid of infections spreading across India- Dont take your life so lightly that u forget basics of barrier methods and its assiduous implementation.

Congo fever kills 3 persons, nurse and doctor a victim

The Congo fever has killed three people in Kolat village in Gujarat near Sanand.

A woman died of the insect-transmitted illness two weeks ago in the Gujarat state village of Kolat and a doctor and nurse who treated her later also contracted the illness and died.

India's National Institute of Virology later confirmed that the three died of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, an Ebola-like disease where patients can bleed to death if not treated quickly. The illness mainly affects animals, but ticks that live on sheep and cattle can pass the virus to people, who can transmit it through their blood or saliva.

all the dental surgeons, nurses and the physicians out there , in fact all the health care professionals who come in contact with patients , please take cross infection control and barrier methods seriously.

Tuberculosis , Hepatitis B and HIV continue to threaten the health of all health care personnel in India as in all developing countries.

In such a climate carelessness in barrier methods would be suicidal.

Can the pregnant dental patient eat grapes ?

Today many of the fruits available in the market are coated with pesticides and different waxes to give them a shine, How safe is the consumption of these fruits for the pregnant ladies, specially in the first three months of pregancy.

A dental surgeon like all other health professionals must take care to do nutritional couseling for the patients so that they do not consume fruits which may be ladden with pesticides or other harmful chemicals which may cause harm to the developing fetus and increase the incidence of cleft lip palate, mental retardation or other developemental disorders. When in doubt peel the fruit would be one of the advice that may be given.

Spirituality , Humor and Importance of working for the underprevileged in making of a good doctor?

Dr Durgesh Bailoor has initiated a discussion group in Karnavati which will discuss the concepts of sprituality and humor in health care. The stress will be laid on importance of working for the poor atleast once a week, so that at least there are 52 times a year u can work for the poor. On 1st of January 2011 a special seminar was organized in the karnavati canteen and over tea and sanwiches these discussions became fruitful.
in the coming weeks all of u readers can see specific references from world literature which stress on these issues and how it can help to make a good doctor and a good human being.
